Reram chip – now storage and processing of these steels are possible in one element

The architecture of the PC, where the information is stored in one module, the calculations occur in another, and there are tires for transmitting data between them, morally outdated in the last century. However, effective commercial devices “All-in-Odnoy” have become available only recently. At the University of Nanyan, Singapore, a bet on the “resistive switches” of Reram – a new technology that made it possible to create a chip that combines data storage and computing processes in one element.

Memristors underlying Reram are good in that they store information by changing the electrical resistance coefficient. This effect is preserved even after turning off the power. Only symbolic energy costs of energy are required to activate the memory and start the signal transmission according to tires. Plus high potential for miniaturization and scaling, when giant logical structures can be recreated in a tiny volume of space.


Reram or Memristors like Singapore scientists not only with their indicators of energy efficiency, but also because they give a chance to realize a long -standing dream – to say goodbye to the binary system in IT. Imagine, write down information through a sequence of 1 and 0 is very easy to physically, but when you begin its decryption, this turns into monotonous sisyphics work. Whether the case is a trinial system is just another symbol, but what is the increase in efficiency!

There are 0, 1 and 2 in the Trinity System, and memory type Reram just allows you to realize the remembrance of data in analog format in three positions with a clear gradient. Without energy costs, without the old cost principle of “vkl/off”. As difficult as it is difficult – at one time in the USSR, Western science was far overtaken in this field, but when it came to the creation of applied systems, everything collapsed under a pile of problems.

What is even more interesting, Reram technology allows not to be limited to three states – with proper calibration there can be many. In theory, here it is, the key to the creation of multidimensional memory systems, where on the chip of today’s size it will be stored and processed simultaneously in billions, if not trillions times more data.
