Kyivstar launched HD Voice technology in 100 cities of Ukraine
frequency range. The standard transmitted range is 300–3400 Hz, HD Voice expands to a range from 50 to 7000 Hz and above. According to Kyivstar, the operator began using technology in 2013 using Edge. Thanks to 3G networks, the introduction of technology has become simpler and Kyivstar solemnly announced that HD Voice technology is already available in 100 cities of Ukraine.

3G technology provides not only high speeds of mobile Internet, but also voting in realistic quality. For this, Kyivstar introduces HD Voice mode on the network 3G – Coding audio signal to ensure high clarity and maximum disassemble of speech of the interlocutor.
Kyivstar began to master HD Voice back in 2013 on the EDGE network in a number of cities of Ukraine. This technology can significantly strengthen the realism of the voice transmission and create a feeling of living communication from mobile subscribers. However, the benefits of this technology are fully manifested in 3G networks, since a wider frequency range is used here.
In 2015, Kyivstar introduced HD Voice technology on the 3G network in several large cities of the country – In Odessa, Lviv, Khmelnitsky, Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk. And in early March 2016, this technology became available in another 100 cities where 3G networks operate. These are Kyiv, Uzhgorod, Ternopil, Kamenetz-Podolsky, Izmail, Belgorod-Dniester, Lutsk, Sambo, Obukhov and many others.
As practice shows, after the launch of this technology, HD Voice traffic at separate 3G base stations is 10-20% of the total voice traffic.
«Already in more than 100 cities where 3G networks operate, many subscribers felt changes as the sound of speech, up to the point that they can clearly hear background sounds – for example, voices in the room, or the sounds of the street, if the interlocutor is in an open area. This is possible if the mobile devices of subscribers support HD Voice, as a rule, these are all modern smartphones. This technology has already been introduced at 60% of 3G base stations, and in 2016 we will develop it», – noted Vasily Pantov, director for technological strategy and quality management of Kyivstar.
With a broadband transfer of the HD Voice voice, interlocutors can more clearly hear high -frequency components, for example, hissing sounds, as well as low frequencies. Such a sound transmission brings interlocutors closer to real life – as if they talked directly.
HD Voice uses AMR-WB codec (Advanced Multirate – WideBand), which can significantly improve the quality of voice transmission by expanding the reproducible frequency strip from 3.4 kHz up to 7 kHz. Thus, the width of the strip of transmitted frequencies is increased by octave.
